KUCHING: Intending home owners in Kota Samarahan can expect to buy affordable houses that costs not more than RM250,000 per unit.
Samarahan District Council (SDC) chairman Dato’ Peter Minos said: “We are trying to work things out with the private sector and developers to make it happen.”
He said this after Sheda Kuching Branch committee members and advisors paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Samarahan yesterday.
Minos said in the next few years, the council will be working on improving the landscape in Samarahan area by planting more flowers and aestatic plants in collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur Landscaping Department.
He also said that starting next year, every housing estate in Samarahan should have their own community association to directly deal with the council on issues like safety and reducing crime in their areas.
“We want to make Samarahan not only a beautiful, friendly and healthy place but also a livable place with soul. There are more than 140,000 people living here and the population is growing fast,” he said.
Met at the function, Sheda Kuching Branch vice chairman Dr Richard Tan said: “This is one of the areas near Kuching where we can do that (building affordable houses) because the land prices are not so high.
“We should be moving in to explore and see how to reduce cost of doing business to achieve this objective in the long run,” he said.
