KUCHING: Zecon Berhad and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia’s School of Professional and Continuing Education (UTMSPACE) have entered a joint venture for the construction of the latter’s permanent campus.
The proposed permanent campus will be built on a 38.4ha site in Kota Petra here.
UTMSPACE will prepare, promote and conduct education programmes in line with its vision to become an excellent lifelong learning centre, while Zecon will contribute to the joint venture by constructing the campus.
Through the joint venture agreement, UTMSPACE hopes to become a major player in providing skilled and semi-skilled workers for industries in Sarawak.
It also hopes to raise awareness about its academic courses and programmes to improve the quality of human capital.
Meanwhile UTMSPACE’s campus at Vista Tunku, Petra Jaya, was launched at Menara Zecon last weekend.
This temporary campus, which can accommodate 400 students, will be equipped with learning facilities and basic amenities.
UTMSPACE staff will be in place to coordinate and assist the administration of the temporary campus.
All state government employees who qualify for further studies on a part-time basis can apply for the programmes at UTMSPACE, starting in June.
Places will also be offered to Sarawakians who hold Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) certificates.
The courses offered are Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Power), Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Mechatronics), Diploma in Electronics Engineering, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Diploma in Civil Engineering, Diploma in Computer Science (Information Technology), Diploma in Computer Science (Multimedia), Diploma in Land Surveyor, Diploma in Real Estate Management, Diploma in Quantity Surveyor, Diploma in Town and Regional Planning, Diploma in Architecture, and Diploma in Technology Management.
