Kuching a ‘Unity City’ come 1st August 2015

KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and Kuching South City Council (MKBS), in collaboration with Tourism Ministry and 1Malaysian Foundation, are working together to organise vibrant Kuching City Day celebrations in conjunction with city’s 27th anniversary.The opening ceremony of the celebrations on 1 August at Stadium Perpaduan, Kuching will be attended by the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Haji Adenan Satem, DBKU Mayor, Datuk Haji Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai and MBKS Mayor Dato James Chan Khay Syn.The highlight of the event on 1 August will be the declaration of Kuching City as a “Unity City” by the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Adenan Haji Satem which also seen the coorperation of DBKU with Sarawak Tourism Ministry and 1Malaysia Foundation (1YM).

According to Wahap, Kuching will become the first city in the world to be given the ‘Unity City’ status as it will become the highlight history for Sarawak.“Kuching City, which has two mayors, is the reflection of the whole Sarawak in unity. The other criteria are respect, friendly, trust, accommodating, empathy, fairness and justice which are the uniqueness we have in Sarawak,” he told a press conference at the Sarawak Islamic Complex here, yesterday.During a research carries out at all the cities in Malaysia, the 1Malaysia Foundation found that Kuching City have the features and quality based on unity concept.This also proves that the Sarawak state government is fully committed to fulfil the criteria and justification in accepting racial diversity, understanding of each other and advocating racial harmony.The celebration logo “Kuching City of Unity” will be launched during the opening ceremony.

The logo reflects the unity of Sarawak people and Kuching City as the first city in the country to be givien the title ‘Unity City’.Meanwhile, DBKU and MBKS have planned various events, programmes and activities for the Kuching City celebrations.DBKU’s events and programmes include a flea market at Stadium Perpaduan car park on 1 August, International City with a Soul Conference on 7 and 8 August, ‘Futsal Piala Datuk Bandar’ on 5 and 6 September, Kuching City Parade and Grand Finale in 10 October at Padang Merdeka, and many other exciting activities.MBKS’ event and programmes will be Food Festival at Dewan Masyarakat and Garden Show at Kuching Park from 31 July to 23 August, Kuching Zumba Fiesta at State Hockey Stadium on 7 August, CASH Martial Arts Display Song Kheng Hai Recreational Ground on 15 August and other activities.
